I have not yet found another animal more elusive than the blacktail deer. This November I tried chasing them around with a camera.
These pictures aren't worthy of National Geographic. I know. But, for those that can appreciate a glimpse at a nice mature blacktail might enjoy these pictures. There always seems to be a limb, or ten, in the way from getting a great picture but that is fine....just to catch these bucks out in the open and get my camera out in time to take a picture made it worthwhile.
This buck was tending to 8 does. Any other time of the year, you would have never caught a buck of this age bedded in the open like this.
This mature buck's white mask gave him away. Most of the year, he would have been safely hidden behind a veil of maple leaves, but the leaves are now on the ground.
This big eyeguard buck ran across the road in front of me, he is right at home in a good downpour.
Nice four-point
Busted! A rare glimpse of a big 5x4 headed for the thick stuff on Thanksgiving morning
