It always goes back to poop

Maybe it's just the crowd I hang around, but ultimately every conversation always ends up talking about poop. Yea, immature I know. But poop happens...and if you want to be a successful goose hunter you need to seek it out.

Goose poop means geese made that poop (yea, I know you don't need to be a genius to figure that one out), which means geese have been in that area, which means that is where we, as hunters, want to be! poop marks the spot!!!

Leo walking to the truck after swimming the South Umpqua chasing a crippled early-season honker

The lack of rain changed up this years waterfowl season and fields that are often full of poop, were poopless, but we still managed to find the end of the rainbow and enough meat to fill our freezers and lots of good memories.

Hunter and Mac with a limit of Umpqua river birds

Mac's first year goose hunting and he did great! and that decoy looks huge!!!!!!!
Three heads poking through the morning frost waiting to hear the sound of distant honks (Hunter, Tod, Jeremiah).

limits of geese in the south part of the county. We finished by 9:30 but should have finished by 8:00!

We didn't kill too much this day, but Roo made my season just spending time with me.

A nice wet day in Glide. Hunter hauling out a load of dekes

Hunter made a awesome 60 yard shot on this beautiful drake mallard with my old 12 gauge 870 Sportsman!
The Burrell boys after a day of limits on the Umpqua river
Looong story, but I assure you he is much better looking as a man.

My First banded pinnie!!!
Killer day with good friends (me, Suzy, Dan, and Tod)
What the?!!! I had the video camera running on this incident however it is still inconclusive who whacked this decoy as Dan and I shot almost simultaneously...however, I still think it was Dan. Ha! It appears it was the wad that did the damage. No signs of pellets were found and amazingly the wad knocked the head 20 feet back! No worries, she will be glued and pampered and back in business next year only with more grit!
Tod sitting in a field of sunflowers waiting for the geese.

Mack on a fine retrieve with drake widgeon in mouth swimming against  a ripping tide on the lower umpqua 4 miles from the ocean
The boys (Mac, Hunter H., Hunter B., and Rogue)

Two fine men. Tod and his boy Jacob (who is attending the OSU in chemical engineering)
Passing time between geese

Goose butts and smiles

Some North Umpqua ducks with the Hartmans

The last day of the season was today. I cleaned my gun and hung the decoys. Of course all good things must come to an end...but not before ending with some poop.
