My brother Anthony and his son came over for another opening day of turkey season. It took two mornings for both boys to fill their turkey tags and that was with a little relaxing in between birds. Turkeys are fun because it is a more relaxing hunt.
The first morning, Hunter zeroed in on the direction that a long-beard hastily followed a flock of hens with hopes he could sneak in front of them and wait for a shot. With a little patience, the tom strutted right into position and Hunter made a fantastic 35 yards shot. Meanwhile, Anthony and Tyler climbed high in a double tree-stand with hopes to call one in. Once they heard the shot, we got together and celebrated the first turkey of the season.

The next morning it was Tyler's turn. It didn't take long to get Tyler on a big long-beard. His first shot was mortally wounded the bird and a run-down and follow-up shot shot was required. Tyler kept strong composure and showed he was plenty capable to not only hunt turkeys but begin thinking about bigger and even more delicious game species.

I'm always looking forward to the next hunt with Tyler and my brother Anthony. There is nothing like being with family in the woods. Speaking of family and such, Corrine took to the woods with me this spring in hopes to get a turkey.
I'm guessing that I enjoy the time with her out there more than she enjoys the time with me out there. I love it. She did very well this year. We made quite a few call stands and was finally able to put the sneak on a big tom. She used the 12 with 3.5" magnums which blew me away, almost as much as it blew her away (her shoulder anyway, which wasn't even close to as bad as it blew away the ol' love-sick tom when it was struck by her Annie Oakley skills.
Corrine and I always find the simple things outside that make her smile.
One of the greatest parts of her success was to have her little sister who cheered on the hunt from within sight in the pick-up.Don't let the head net and hat hide her facial excitement. Laynee was excited as well.
