Holy cow! 2017 is over!

Big game season came to an end with a cow elk tag. My friend Bob is as stubborn as I am...maybe even more and when we spotted elk miles away, we convinced ourselves it was a good idea to go after them. The landscape is incredibly deceiving. It is wide open and appears that it would be a "hop, skip, and a jump" to get from point A to point B. Wrong!  We finally caught up to a cow around 1 PM...5.5 miles later. The cow was bedded and the little .243 ackley barked and did a wonderful job. Bob was tremendous help as I couldn't have made it out in one trip without him.

My family ended up filling all of our big game tags we wanted to, watching our freezer inventory. I may have got a little excited during Wyoming's application season this year as there were 5 tags that we never even hunted as we didn't have time nor did we need the meat. I'll just call the costs of tags a financial wildlife donation.

What a great season.

I finished the 2017 year photographing Bighorn Sheep with some of my favorite people and doing a little ice-fishing for Yellowstone Cutts. The weather has been brisk but the fishing was hot! Application season is right around the corner and we will start over again. Here is to an awesome 2018!!!!
