Goose hunting with the kids

The Challenges of goose hunting: 

-Driving across the county from pasture to pasture, trying to locate where the majority of geese are spending their winter days.

-Once you find them, building the courage to ask the pasture's owner if we can barge in and shoot up the place.

-Waking up when most weekenders are just getting to bed, only to haul decoys on your back long distances, uphill both ways, with a headlamp.

Tod and I visited this field searching for a place to bring our girls for a hunt. While we were there, we killed our 4-bird limit pretty quickly. We used the motor housing for our blind. Worked great!

We took the girls back to the same water line blind. Tod and his daughter Jessica putting out decoys at "too early" o'clock 

Two pretty girls with great smiles, and both shooting 12 gauge autoloaders. That's right, do you hear that boys?

At first light, two geese made there way into our decoys. Two shots later these girls both had their first goose!

The rewards from goose hunting is a combination of the adventure, the meat, the stories, and just being with friends and family outdoors in the mud and elements.  Here's to another good year!
